“ We work so that our food tastes better and to have more or better sex. We work to learn more, to see God or sometimes just to keep from being bored.
Around us our cities are crowded with the things we’ve made and the things we’ve discarded. Like some massive termite mound – or a human version of a coral reef, each of us is doing his or her part. Slowly, inexorably we seem to be building something – if only we knew what.
This series of images celebrates the shapes, textures and colours of the work that we do. The bigger the work, the simpler it seems to be. Heavy duty equipment is red, yellow or blue, perhaps green or orange – but rarely olive or taupe. I work to simplify these images, and help the shapes and colours emerge…..”
Working is an installation piece featuring a series of 12 vector-based images created from photographs of industrial landscapes. The works will be housed in a shipping container framed in recyclable shipping pallets and reclaimed wood donated by local businesses.
7 of the images are to be printed on a commercial lightjet printer with a metallic layer and mounted on Die-Bond. The remaining 5 images will be printed on canvas, hung from the framing on metal rods and strung with wire. As with all of my work there will be text associated with this series of images.
Ketchup
….the companies had names like Climax Molybdenum or
Universal Cyclops Steel
.
at lunch break the older guys played cribbage
& traded insults
.
and the guy next to you talked on & on about hockey…
.
until you’d roll your eyes & stare at Miss January’s implants
or squirt ketchup on his coveralls…

Rusty
Let me speak of socialism
or the way that May sticks flowers on things.
.
My archetypal blue collar man -
let him have most of his teeth and red hair
.
and for symbolism he sees
a small-town girl with big tits….
.
Wanting a bit of schoolgirl for breakfast
give him a grin, big as Arkansas
imagining his gross national product –
.
maybe his name is Rusty….
