In the past Newfoundlanders had to leave the island to get jobs. These other places are referred to collectively as ‘away’. I stole the concept …and some of those memories….from Newfoundland, a place that I’ve never been.
I grew up in Montreal – at the time my family was away from British Columbia where I was born. The childhood memories of place are etched deeply in my psyche. Over time pictures fade and shift. This series of images speaks of place – removed by time and distance – which gradually becomes a caricature of the place as remembered from ‘away’…..
This exhibition is taking shape and will emerge over the next few years….
